HPP (Hosted Payment Page)

A Hosted Payment Page (HPP) is a payment page that is hosted and managed by a third-party payment service provider rather than the merchant’s website. When customers proceed to checkout, they are redirected to the provider’s secure payment page to complete the transaction.

The payment provider processes the transaction and then returns the customer to the merchant’s website once the payment is completed. This approach allows businesses to accept online payments without directly handling sensitive payment card data.

How Hosted Payment Pages Work

During the checkout process, the customer selects a payment option on the merchant’s website. Instead of entering payment details on the merchant’s server, the user is redirected to a secure payment page hosted by the payment provider.

The hosted page collects payment information, processes the transaction through the payment gateway, and communicates the result back to the merchant’s system.

Advantages of Hosted Payment Pages

Hosted payment pages provide several advantages for merchants, especially those that want a simple and secure payment solution.

  • Enhanced security: Payment data is handled by the payment provider rather than the merchant.
  • Reduced compliance burden: Merchants can simplify PCI DSS compliance requirements.
  • Quick integration: Businesses can start accepting payments without building complex payment infrastructure.
  • Reliable payment processing: Payment providers maintain secure and optimized transaction systems.

Hosted Payment Pages vs API Payment Integration

Another common payment integration method is API-based payment processing. Unlike hosted payment pages, API integration allows the payment form to remain directly on the merchant’s website without redirecting the customer.

API payment integration offers greater control over the checkout experience and branding, which may improve customer retention and conversion rates. However, it typically requires more technical implementation and stronger security management.
